Kenyatta National Hospital

Kenyatta National Hospital is a national referral, teaching and rsearch hospital located in Nairobi, Kenya. It is a 1800 bed public hospital that has been in existence since 1901. It became a State Corporation in 1987 through the Legal Notice No. 109.

The Hospital mandate is to:

• Receive patients referred from other hospitals or institutions within or outside Kenya for specialized health care.
• Provide facilities for medical education for the University of Nairobi, and for research either directly or through other cooperating health institutions.
• Provide facilities for education and training in nursing and other health and allied profesions.
• participate as a national referral hospital, in national health planning

As a national referral facility, the Hospital offers the following services among others

• Laboratory and Mausoleum Care Services
• HIV/AIDS -Comprehensive Care Services
• Medical specialities e.g Diabetes, Lung diseases, heart diseases, asthma
• Medicine and Poisons Information Management
• Nutrition and Patient Support
• Obstetrics and Gynaecology including VVF/RVF repair
• Occupational Therapy
• Paediatric - including new born care
• Pharmaceutical Care
• Physiotherapy
• Radiotherapy and cancer treatment
• Specialised Care- ICU, HDU, Renal, Burns (Reconstructive Surgery)
• Surgical - including orthopaedic, Cardiothoracic, neuro, paediatric, plastic, ENT, eye, dental and msaxillofacial.

Provides training and Internship for health Professionals, facilitates their research activities and also carries out its own research.
