Wildlife Veterinary Internship and Wildlife Volunteer Program with Kenya Wildlife Service

This is an opportunity to gain experience working with many different wildlife species and to learn skills such as handling techniques, cleaning cages and sterilization procedures, habitat enrichment, diets, food preparation and feeding methods, and to assist experienced rehab staff with treatment of diseases procedures.

Location:- About 10km south west of Nairobi City Centre lies the first National Park to be established in East Africa on 16th December 1946. At the main entrance to the park is the Wildlife Conservation Education Centre established in 1964 with the aim of educating public on wildlife and nature conservation in the country. Education programmes at the Education Centre encourage participants to gain an understanding of the relationships existing between human activities and the environment.

Highlights:- Through this program, interns and volunteers work at Kenya National Parks,  Safari Walk, an animal “orphanage” near Nairobi which rehabilitates and releases wild animals that have been injured or abandoned, Safari Walk or any other National Park within Kenya.

The Project Background   : This is an opportunity to gain experience working with many different wildlife species and to learn skills such as handling techniques, cleaning cages and sterilization procedures, habitat enrichment, diets, food preparation and feeding methods, and to assist experienced rehab staff with treatment of diseases procedures. Kenya Wildlife Service rehabilitates animals such as hippos, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, monkeys, elephants, rhinos, zebras, impalas, ostrich and any other animal found in Kenya’s National parks and game reserves.

Role:- Assisting professional vets and staff with routine treatments and caring for animals by helping with feeding, cleaning, maintenance, and behavior observation.  This wildlife Volunteer program is also for people seeking placement/attachment to acquire foreign work experience or desire to experience a change in their normal working environment;
